We have a very wise person applying themselves in an unusual way, perhaps by strategically lying.  To achieve an end goal of diplomacy, first they'll start one or two small and manageable arguments.  They will commit or permit treason against one person, so there can be tolerance for another person.  By doing so, they will become a good guy in crime.  Although dishonest in this particular situation, because this mild-mannered person has such a deep grasp of human nature, they can risk employing betrayal with some folks, in order to help other people grow.
