an empty victory

eight of wands + five of wands
Reading this combo generally, we have a querent (Person A) with alot of things up in the air.  Person A is in conflict with Person B, but it will be an empty victory.
Placing this combo within an emotional context, Person A is interested in Person B, and Person A waits and hopes for Person B to be attracted to them.  In an attempt to get Person B's attention, Person A will act hastily and ruin their already-slim chances.  In fact, Person B will put down Person A.  ("You are annoying."  "You are an idiot."  "Why would anyone like or be with you?"  "I have never loved you.")  Today's cards encourage our querent (Person A) to be patient and to give their crush space, or else there will be an abusive battle of hurtful words.
Here is the most interesting part (for me):  Because the Five of Swords appeared yesterday, also in the second position, then we can connect the tarotscopes, and when we make that connection, it becomes obvious that our querent (Person A) actually has a deep understanding of Person B.  These two people are not strangers, and Person A could probably list the several reasons they care about grumpy Person B.  While Person A seems to be both balanced and emotional astute, the one thing they don't know, the primary piece of advice these cards are imparting is that - at this point in the relationship - all decisions now must be made by Person B.  Person A has absolutely nothing left to do, except to love Person B and to wait for them.
The fact that there is little info about Person B confirms how today is for our querent, Person A who feels defeated:  Don't fight to be loved. Turcois Ominek, author of Masquerade: A Collection of Thoughts Affected by Love, wrote "True love has a habit of coming back."  If Person B does not return, then it wasn't true and would've been an empty victory.
Today's cards come from Lotus Tarot.
